Success is not defined by who has or owns the most. The Gail
Devers Foundation, Inc. offers a scholarship program to youth
seeking higher education which enables them to be competitive
in the job market.
The scholarship program was launched in June of 2000 providing
monetary assistance estimating
nearly $5,000 to qualified recipients. The
inaugural participating school was Sweetwater Union High
School in National City, CA where three recipients were
chosen. In the future, through corporate sponsors, the Gail
Devers Foundation, Inc., will distribute scholarships in
schools throughout the country.
Traditional scholarship programs ask for applicants to submit essays
and the "best" writer wins. The Gail Devers Foundation deviates
from the norm. We have a criterion that is not based solely on an
applicant’s ability to express on paper their understanding of a
topic; but rather, a criterion that involves both the students
proven academic ability and their behavior as positive role models
in their respective school and community.
The Gail Devers Foundation Scholarship Program enlists the help of
County Counselors, School Counselors, and community leaders to select
counties and schools for scholarship consideration. From the student
applications we receive, we consider grades, financial need, behavior,
and dedication to school/community.
